I am having a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that it is the middle of August. I hate that summer is almost over. I am getting super excited for our school year to start- we are jumping into the homeschooling adventure with both feet this year- but I am not quite ready to pack away the flip-flops and the sprinkler. Buying a house at the beginning of the summer means that we have been pretty preoccupied with painting + organizing + cozying of the nest, not many long, lazy days at the pool or picnics at our favorite park.
So at dinner last week, I brought out my notebook and forced the family to brainstorm with me. What are the top things that we still have to do this summer? What memories still need to be made in the summer of 2010?
Here is our end of the summer to-do list:
Go to the farm and pick lots of whatever is in season (I can't wait for the peaches! They are unbelievable here!)
Play with my basketball hoop (that would be Elliot's #1 contribution)
Spend lots of time at the pool + the lake
Go on a family hike
Go on a camping trip with just the four of us (we went on a fun family reunion camping trip a couple of weeks ago, but we are craving a trip with just our little foursome. I am hoping for the coast.)
Go to the fair (I have to bribe Erik to do this one- he absolutely hates fairs)
Take the kids out to ice-cream (If we still lived in Bellingham, we would take them here)
Have a picnic
Finish reading Charlotte's Web aloud (Audrey and I started it about a month ago)
Make a million more happy memories with my three favorite people.
